The nation’s politicians have made their way back to Canberra for the start of the parliamentary year today.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Julia Gillard said that 2012 will be a year-long debate on the Australian economy. Well as Tony Abbott told the Coalition Party Room this morning: make my day.
Labor’s economic record has been a disaster – record debt and deficits, growing unemployment and underemployment and stagnating productivity. A Coalition government can fix these, we have done it before, our record in office proves this.
On a more personal note, I was honoured to be named one of the 20 people in politics to watch in 2012 by The Weekend Australian.
It was pleasing to be recognised on the list as one of three Victorian Liberals, with Kelly O’Dwyer and Josh Frydenberg, plus my fellow senator Arthur Sinodinos.
