The Australian last week and the Herald Sun earlier this month outlined the litany of Rudd Labor’s broken election promises. Whaling, childcare, laptops in schools, superannuation, GP superclinics – the list is extraordinary in its scope and length.

And this week in Parliament, Rudd Labor will try to expand its list of broken promises even further.

In 2007, Kevin Rudd and Nicola Roxon promised to maintain the Private Health Insurance rebate. This week Labor is trying to cut it back it by means-testing it – the first step in its ultimate plan to end the rebate entirely. This broken promise will put even more pressure on public hospitals.

Later this week Labor will again attempt to force university students to join and fund student unions – another explicit promise they are breaking. Students will be thousands of dollars worse off under Labor’s plans as they are forced to fund student unions every year they are at University, regardless of their wishes.

I co-authored the Coalition’s Senate Committee report opposing Labor’s plans, which you can find here.

All the while Peter Garrett refuses to take responsibility for Labor’s disastrous home insulation policy and the failure of the green loans program. This is despite news that he was warned of the catastrophic failures in the program in April last year.

Kevin Rudd is breaking promises and attempting to avoid responsibility for his ministers’ own incompetence. They are hoping you won’t notice before the election later this year. We will ensure that Rudd cannot run away from his failed record.
