Today’s release of the ACCI Small Business Survey (May 2011) confirms the Gillard Government’s ongoing neglect continues to stifle recovery and growth in the small business community.
While there are slight improvements for large businesses, small business conditions remain 4.7 points lower than their 5 year average and the gap between small and large business conditions continues to widen to record levels.
For small and medium businesses, ‘Business Taxes and Government Charges’ have now displaced ‘Wage Costs’ as the number one constraint on investment.
“Small and medium enterprises have identified the Gillard Government as the biggest threat to their ongoing survival,” Senator Ryan said.
“The Prime Minister’s belated recognition of the red tape burden her government imposes on small business is an important first step, but no comfort to the 300,000 people who have lost their jobs in small business since the Labor Government was elected in 2007.”
“It’s time for the government to get serious about deregulation and allow small business to grow and employ more Australians.”
