After years of Labor inaction, the Abbott Government will act to protect drivers, commuters and pedestrians in St Albans.

Senator the Hon Scott Ryan, Liberal Senator for Victoria, welcomed the Federal Government’s allocation of $151 million to complete the Main Road grade separation in St Albans.

“For years, the Member for Maribyrnong Bill Shorten neglected to take action to fix this problem,” Senator Ryan said.

“Now, in its first budget, the Federal Coalition Government has delivered the funding needed to make the St Albans rail crossing safe.

“I thank Minister for Infrastructure Warren Truss for making this funding available in the context of a tight budget.”

“The Federal Coalition is committed to investing in infrastructure for the 21st century. Better roads mean less congestion, faster travel times and lower fuel costs. Better roads will also help build a strong and prosperous economy and create thousands of jobs, which I am sure will be welcomed by the residents of Melbourne’s west.”

According to the Victorian Government, more than 20,000 motorists and pedestrians pass through the intersection at Main Road, St Albans each day. There are also more than 160 Metro or V/Line training passing the level crossing each weekday.

The Abbott Government has made a record $7.6 billion investment in Victoria’s infrastructure in the 2014-15 Federal Budget.
