Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, Senator the Hon Scott Ryan, today launched the Preparing Secondary Students for Work website and online assessment tool.
The new website and online assessment tool is available to help principals, teachers and trainers provide high quality, industry relevant courses for students studying vocational education training courses at secondary school.
“The Preparing Secondary Students for Work website contains important information that will assist schools and employers to more effectively work together, directly benefitting students both in the short and long term,” Minister Ryan said.
“The website has a new interactive self-assessment tool to help schools plan, implement, and review their existing or new VET training courses.”
Almost two-thirds of graduating secondary school students choose a path other than university. We need to improve awareness of all the opportunities and careers vocational and training offers, both for work or linkages to further study.
“The VET sector is critical, both in training students for the jobs of today and preparing them with the skills and adaptability for the jobs of the future. An effective vocational training system is good for individuals, businesses and our economy.”
Minister Ryan thanked all schools, industry, and state and territory stakeholders who contributed to making the website and evaluation tool a great resource to use.
“The Turnbull Government will continue to work with states and territories and the non-government school sector to improve the quality of VET courses offered to secondary students. The Preparing Secondary Students for Work website is just one way we are doing this.” Minister Ryan said.
