The 120 Youth 20 delegates from G20 nations were today farewelled at the closing ceremony of the Youth 20 (Y20) Summit in Sydney.

Senator the Hon Scott Ryan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education, attended the ceremony today on behalf of the Australian Government.

“Today’s ceremony marks the culmination of many months of preparation and hard work by the Y20 Planning Group and the 2014 delegates,” Senator Ryan said.

“The delegates have worked diligently over the last few days to develop a communiqué which builds on the recommendations presented to G20 Sherpas and Finance and Central Bank Deputies in June.

“It is clear youth unemployment is the cornerstone issue affecting young people across the globe, with some estimates stating over 74 million young people are out of work worldwide.

“This Summit has given young people a chance to speak about their own experiences, ideas and concerns, and to craft recommendations to address the youth unemployment challenge.”

The recommendations coming out of the Summit include supporting youth entrepreneurship, labour mobility, and employment and growth.

The Y20 2014 Communiqué will be formally presented to the Australian Treasurer, the Hon Joe Hockey MP tomorrow morning.

“Although the 2014 Y20 Summit has now closed, the next important step for youth delegates is to continue advocating for their country action plans, through their home country networks,” Senator Ryan said.
