The Special Minister of State, Senator the Hon Scott Ryan, has today announced three new appointments to the Australian Electoral Commission.

 

Mr Jeff Pope has been appointed as Deputy Electoral Commissioner, Mr Martyn Hagan has been appointed Australian Electoral Officer for South Australia and Mr David Molnar has been appointed Australian Electoral Officer for Tasmania.

 

Short biographies of the three appointments are attached below.

 

The Special Minister of State congratulated Mr Pope, Mr Hagan and Mr Molnar.

 

“These appointments will ensure the Australian Electoral Commission can continue to manage an electoral system of which Australians can rightly be proud,” Senator Ryan said.

 

 

Deputy Electoral Commissioner

Mr Jeff Pope APM is currently the Australian Electoral Officer and State Manager for Victoria. Mr Pope has made a significant contribution to the successful delivery of the 2016 federal election, both in Victoria and nationally. His experiences in the Victorian Police Force, the Australian Crime Commission, the Australian Bureau of Criminal Intelligence, and the Australian Electoral Commission align extremely well with the requirements of the role of Deputy Electoral Commissioner.  Mr Pope’s appointment will ensure the successful implementation of an effective reform strategy within the organisation.

 

Australian Electoral Officer for South Australia

Mr Martyn Hagan is currently undertaking the role of Registrar with the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. He comes to the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) with an extensive background in the legal sector, with demonstrable experience in driving organisational change in national and state-based organisations. The AEC will benefit from Mr Hagan’s significant transformation and risk management expertise, strategic understanding and operational proficiency.

 

Australian Electoral Officer for Tasmania

Mr David Molnar is currently the acting Australian Electoral Officer and State Manager for Tasmania. He has 15 years of electoral experience in management positions, which is complemented by his prior experience within federal government and the private sector. Mr Molnar brings a strong understanding of the nature and complexity of the role, combined with a deep understanding of the local context. He has made a valuable contribution to the successful delivery of the 2016 federal election.
