Important works have commenced on the redevelopment of the Melton Town Centre as part of the Coalition Government’s $1 billion National Stronger Regions Fund.
Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the Fund is delivering key infrastructure upgrades to some of the most disadvantaged regions in Australia as part of the Coalition’s plans for jobs and growth.
“The Coalition Government committed $5.54 million toward this project, which will improve the lives of Melton residents considerably,” Minister Nash said.
“Together, rounds One and Two are providing $505.3 million for 161 projects across Australia. Round Three is now closed, with the announcement of successful applicants expected in July 2016.”
Senator the Hon Scott Ryan, Minister for Vocational Education and Skills and Senator for Victoria, who was in Melton today for the sod turning, said the upgrades would improve access to essential services.
“The redevelopment of the Melton Town Centre has included works across Palmerston Street, McKenzie Street, Bakery Square and Wallace Square to improve connectivity to essential services including access to public WiFi from the Melton Green and amphitheatre areas,” Senator Ryan said.
“I am pleased the Coalition Government has been able to provide $5.54 million through the National Stronger Regions Fund to ensure that Melton residents are better connected, and have access to better services.”
Liberal candidate for Gorton, Daryl Lang, said the Melton Town Centre upgrade is a real win for Melton residents.
“Melton residents will benefit from this upgrade. It is great to see the Coalition Government’s continued support in our region,” Mr Lang said.
“Not only will the redevelopment provide residents with improved services, it is also expected to create 29 jobs during construction, and a further 30 ongoing jobs upon completion.”
The redevelopment of the Melton Town Centre project is scheduled for completion in February 2019. The project is jointly funded through the Australian Government, Victorian Government and Melton City Council.
