Wayne Swan delivered his fifth budget, and again, we are seeing a further increase in debt. Through accounting tricks and shuffling money between months and years, the Treasurer is making a false claim about having turned around his record of debt and deficit.
Here we have it again: another year, another increase in borrowings; another year, yet more put on the national credit card.

Questions posed by Senator Scott Ryan during Additional Estimates in February have shown spending at the Australian Public Service Commission is increasing, at the same time as the Government is calling for a four per cent efficiency dividend. Senator Scott Ryan is concerned that while the general unemployment rate is low, unemployment in Melbourne’s north and west is far higher than average. It is time that the Labor members in these areas start to take their constituents’ concerns seriously and stop introducing economically damaging policies.
